She included this on her Christmas Card:
O little town of Bethlehem
No, it’s a major Palestinian city in the West Bank

How still we see thee lie! —
Sometimes - for where once heaving crowds of tourists supported a thriving economy, there are usually empty squares and plenty of space to enjoy the Church of the Nativity in peace and quiet.
And poverty, real poverty, increases

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
No, most nights, tanks of the Israeli Defence Force rumble around the refugee camps, some residents of which have lived there since 1948, and young lads throwing stones are frequently shot and killed or wounded. Or the homes of families of prisoners are blown up at dead of night - a form of collective punishment (collective punishment is illegal under international law)

The silent stars go by —
Yes, they’re still there

Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light
Well it’s pretty hard to detect, if it’s there at all

The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight
No, for many of those who can afford it are looking to life in other lands to meet their hopes and still their fears.

Please email us at sofn.croydon@gmail.com for details of the venues.

New members are welcome. You do not need to be a member of Sea of Faith to attend our local meetings.
